It's finally over...

This past weekend was Pre Cana. And all I can say is I am thrilled it's over.

It started off on Friday at 6pm. The reminder told us to be there at 6 and there would be refreshments, snacks and pizza. So the man and I both skipped dinner because we were told there would be food.

We get there and set up on some tables is veggies trays, cheese, some cookies, brownies and some soda and water. So we are thinking ok pre-dinner snack.

More people pile in and sit at the available tables and partake in the snacks. All the while you can hear people asking each other about the pizza. The couples at our table were all saying how they didn't have dinner cause they came right from work and were looking forward to the pizza.

So 6:30 the talks start. Each talk consisted of a couple getting up and giving us their biography on how they met and talks about one of the topics. I don't remember many of them because my stomach was eating itself. The ones I can remember were sex and sexuality (older couple talking about afternoon delights), adjustments in marriage (cute couple in their 70-80s), and the natural family planning talk that told us nothing.

After a talk, you take a test from your workbook and then go over your answers with each other. Then we were all split into groups for group sessions. These lasted about 10 minutes and were basically the couples sitting in a circle staring at each other while the lead couples tried to get us to talk.

After that a short break followed by another talk, test, group.

After the second group session there was a break and we noticed that the lead couples were eating. What were they eating....PIZZA!

So the man gets up with our reminder flyer and says to the lead peeps "Hey alot of us are wondering when we are going to get pizza." To which one of them says, "oh that's tomorrow." To which the man replies while holding up the flyer "Not according to this." They said "oh well that's a typo, the pizza is for lunch tomorrow." The man replies "Well you have a lot of pissed off people out here who haven't eaten dinner and they are hungry." They shrug, the man sits back down.

I am so hungry I am nauseous. I stuffed myself with cookies trying to get my blood sugar up and was on a sugar roller coaster of nausea. I barely paid attention to the rest of the evening because I felt so horrible. We got out at 9 and hit up a Wendy's for dinner.

The next morning was day 2 of pre cana. I woke up at 5 so sick I didn't know what to do with myself but I knew I had to make it to pre cana which lasted from 8:30-3. I basically overdosed on pepto bismol to stop any kind of unplanned evacuation.

When we got there they had a breakfast of donuts and bagels. I forced a donut down and hoped for the best.

More talks, tests and group sessions. The a holy hour, which was basically a small mass and then either confession or sitting until it was over. This is when we began text messaging everyone to complain about how much this sucked.

Holy hour was followed by the pizza, 18 hours too late. A few more talks and we were outta there by 2:30.

Seriously I didn't get much out of the whole ordeal. The whole idea of pre cana is to talk about things you may not have talked about. Like do you want kids, or how you are going to handle finances. I mean the man and I have been together for 3 years now. If you haven't talked about stuff like that in that amount of time, there is something seriously wrong with you and you don't know your partner. Maybe it's helpful for younger couples, who knows.

The common sense continues

Since I can't sit and listen to a freaking lecture while at work, I have been listening to the Sexual Common Sense cd in the car on my 5 minute commute. So I get about 20 minutes a day in snippets.
The damn thing is beginning to infuriate me. It's a lecture by a Ph.D. who is obviously skewed in one direction of the issue.

Today's lovely factoid got into "chemical contraception". She rattled of side effects of the pill that I haven't heard nor experienced. She claims that studies have shown that the pill causes irritability, ovarian cysts, weight gain and lowered sex drive.

Now anyone who has a television and is barraged with the countless Yaz and other oral contraception commericals knows that this is clearly false. Most of them are now touted as diminishing irritability, I can vouch for that myself. As for weight gain, I didn't see any and most really only make you gain 2-5 lbs initially but that evens out as you continue to take it. I have never heard of the pill causing ovarian cysts and I think my sister, who is a doctor and on the pill as well, would have mentioned that as a side effect. And if it was I think she would be smart enough to not take the damn thing and prescribe it to people let alone her sister. I have heard of diminished sex drive in some people, but nothing that makes a gal completely frigid.

And nothing kills a sex drive more than a screaming child. Nuf said

The weirdness continues...

Ok so we have to go take a premarital class, right? So the other day I got a package in the mail confirming our enrollment in this class. And along with the directions and what not is an audio cd.

Curious I turn it over and it's titled "Sexual Common Sense"

They are teaching the "natural family planning" method on audio cd now!!!!!!!

Hilarious.

Now the area I grew up in had rather extensive Health Classes in school. Junior year of high school we had "family living", where the teacher actually talked about different flavors of lubricant, positions, family planning and other methods of contraception, and stuff like that, so I think I am covered. Not to mention my sister was a sexual health advocate in college and is currently a doctor. I don't think I need this cd.

I am actually listening to it in the car. It's more sociology class than sex ed, so it's boring and lame.
I have to fill out a survey to tell if this cd was useful to me. Hehe

The Journey Continues

Yesterday the man and I had to go to our church and meet with the priest to take a test. It's basically a bunch of questions designed to get subjects out in the open that you may or may not have dealt with.

It was called FOCUS, I can't remember what it stands for but it was a list of statements that you either had to agree or disagree on. And it was scantron (the high school flashbacks were nifty)

It was basically quick and easy. There really isn't a grade, and if you're tests don't match up it's not like the priest won't marry us. It's just an interesting exercise that he likes to have couples do.

The questions were run of the mill. But there were a few that made me laugh.
Examples:

Agree, Disagree or Undecided

Your partner does things that annoy you.
I feel pressured to get married.
My partners family is interfering with our wedding plans.
My partners appearance is too important them.
My partner acts inappropriately in public.
I think I will be uncomfortable being naked in front of my partner. BWAH HAHAH
The sexual relationship we have is an example of Jesus' love.

That's just a taste. It didn't take long but some of the questions were so weird. I am not a religious person, and I really don't like the stuffy confines that comes with church. I don't think I need to go to a building to be spiritual. But I grew up going and I believe it did mold my morals as a person, so I guess it can't be all bad.

I am trying to not talk so much about my wedding, because I find people that obsess over it to be so irritating. So if I start blathering on about it too much, someone say something.

Slow Tuesday

I am sitting here with nothing to do. It's been a while since that has happened. Which explains the lack of frequent posting. I guess if this little area of the interweb was more popular I would feel a little more guilty about it.

So I am sitting here with random thoughts going through my head.

Random thought 1:
A chick I used to be friends with emailed me a few months ago (in a mass email) asking for my address to send invitations to her wedding. Now I haven't heard from this chick in over a year and I only hear from her if I call her. And when I talk to her, it's all about her. It's the "J Show" with occasional commercial breaks to ask what I am up to, followed by more of the "J Show". So needless to say I ignored her email. She met the guy in July and is getting married this March. This is her second marriage, I went to the first wedding and didn't think it would last. I don't have much confidence in this one either. I didn't invite her to my wedding.

Random thought 2:
For some reason my old roommate popped into my head and I was wondering how she was doing in her marriage. She met the guy online and was engaged after 8 months. Just wondering if they are still together and if they did the whole baby thing yet.

Random thought 3:
Been thinking of first dance songs for my wedding. I don't like all of the stereotypical ones, so I was thinking something unique and not heard at weddings that often. Any suggestions?

Those are the ones floating round at the moment. Nothing huge, mostly unimportant drivel.
That's what happens when I have nothing to work on for most of the day. Day dreaming and thinking about stupid shit.

BP can suck it!

Yes I am referring to the BP gas stations.

I went to fill up the other day to a station that is conveniently on my way home. It so happens to be a BP station that I have been going to for years. Well this time after I told the guy to fill it up regular ( yeah in Jersey we don't pump our own gas, it's against the law hehe) I noticed something new. They had two prices for all the grades of gas. One price was for cash, the other was 3 cents higher per gallon for credit. WTF!!!!!

Well they lost me as a customer, I am going to go across the street to the WAWA, where they don't do that.
What whores!

Lingering Nerve Pain

I know I know, it's been over a week. (only 1 or 2 of you really noticed anyway)

Nothing much has been happening, except for a lot of pain, a lot of advil, and a lot of liquid nourishment.

The pain is subsiding, but still there. I still don't want to eat solid foods because stuff gets stuck in the hole left by my missing tooth. I can't wait until it closes up. I would give me joy.

Other things that happened:
  • Ordered my wedding invitations
  • Registered for wedding stuff
  • First fitting of wedding dress
  • Received wedding invitations
That's about the long and short of it. God why do I continue to even blog?

MOTHER FORKER

My chin is itchy. But it's also numb. So scratching can't be felt. So it stays itchy!!!!!!!

Kill me

Comfortably Numb?

So I left work today to have one of my wisdom teeth removed. I wasn't too thrilled about it and was rather anxious for it to be over.

I get there a half hour early to fill out "paperwork". Then I sat and waited an hour to get into the exam room. I sat there for another 5-10 min before the doctor even came in. He numbed me... a lot. 3 shots, one that hit some nerve that made my sinuses feel like they were on fire. Then he left for it to take effect. I proceeded to become numb from the middle of my chin to my ear (Yes my ear is numb to the touch).

He also took this time to tell me I should get the other three teeth removed (even though they aren't causing problems, hurting or in the way...yes I think he's a Nazi)

He finally came back 10 minutes later, or so. The told me that if it was a cooperative tooth it would take 5 minutes and I would have some pain later. If it wasn't cooperative it would take 10 minutes and drilling and hammering would be needed to get it out (EEEEK!).

He told me I would feel pressure and maybe her some crunching noises if the tooth breaks (hurk, gag). Then he put some clampy mouth opener thingy in my mouth, I only assume so that I wouldn't bite him, and started tugging and wiggling.

Luckily it was an easy bugger and came out without too much destruction.

I am now still numb, I had pudding for lunch (YAY PUDDING), I had the largest piece of gauze ever in my mouth, and I am tasting blood which is making me feel a tad icky. But I am back at work, because I am a trooper and I totally rock the pony ass.

That's my drama for the day.

how many five year olds could you take...

...in a fight.

I found this link today and it just made me laugh, so I had to take the survey and see how I would do.
I mean who wouldn't?

Stolen Fun

I stole this from Seismic Twitch who stole it from someone else.

You are in a band. Your band is about to release their first CD. Now, follow these directions to build it. Go to

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The tail (last three or four words) of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4. Use the graphics program of your choice to put them together into your first CD.

And then the song list

Go to Random Title Generator and get your list of songs on the album:

Invisible Stream
The Burning Witch
Lords of Visions
The Fairy's Legend
The Touch of the Twins
Rose in the Lords
Playful Husband
The Missing Names
Edge of Alien
The Slave's Danger
The Game of the Flame
Winter in the Wife

That was fun!

Crooked lady, with the crooked walk

All I can say is ow.

I went to the gym last night. Ended up on a treadmill. It was ok, but it didn't feel "right". It felt like it was getting stuck and not moving fast enough. I think the belt was sticking or something cause it was squeaking. I think I felt a little twinge, but nothing painful, in my back as well. So I stopped after 5 minutes because i saw an elliptical machine open up.

So I get on the elliptical for 25 minutes and I go home. Nothing major just a half hour work out. I did notice the twinge again on my way out of the car, but I didn't think much of it because it was snowing and I wanted to get in the house as soon as possible.

So I did my usual, drop the bag, let the dog out, let the dog in, grab a snack, and sit on the couch to chill before my shower.

After a half hour or so I decide to go shower and this is where it all gets owwy. Shooting pain in my back just below the middle. I couldn't stand up straight without pain. So I thought I would take a bath to soak.
Then I iced it for a bit and then heating pad. By 10 I really couldn't stand up straight and I hobbled upstairs to take Tylenol PM and into bed I crashed.

Thank god it hurts less this morning. But it still hurts. I really don't know what I did and if I did I would like to know what it was so I can avoid doing it in the future.

Work Slowage

Well it seems I have finished most of my work for the day. Well that's the work that was there this morning, no telling what will show up this afternoon. So I am back to sitting around bored out of my mind, kind of like I was around the holidays. Oh well.

I have a bunch of appointments to make and I don't feel like it. It's like an overwhelming amount of crap that I am going to have to get done. Mostly wedding shit, but not all. Yesterday I set up an appointment to go to the oral surgeon to have my tooth pulled (sad). I still have to get in contact with the music people at the church, call the trainer to set up sessions, set up pre-cana classes (when I find out when they are), call a florist, call to set up a first fitting for my dress (when I find shoes that I want to wear), find a flight to Hawaii and back, pick an invitation, and register somewhere. I am sure there are more things I need to do, but I can't think of any more at the moment.

The registering thing is a pain. Basically because there isn't much that we need that we can register for. We both owned houses, so we have 2 of just about everything. I don't want a set of china, because I don't have anywhere to put it and it seems like an outdated thing to have anymore. I mean my mom has a set and they use it more often now as everyday dishes because it sat in a cabinet for 30 years or so. The man just wants money, but that seems kind of obnoxious to me a little. I mean there are older people being invited to the wedding and traditionally they get you a gift. I think we should at least register for towels and maybe bedding and shit like that, most of ours is old or hand me down type stuff. I really don't know what else to register for, blarg.

I have a few books of invitations to go through. I am not really worried about it, I can order them through my office and get 50% off so that makes things easy. I just have to find one I like.

Something that seemed so far off is suddenly seeming way too close to get everything done.
