The common sense continues

Since I can't sit and listen to a freaking lecture while at work, I have been listening to the Sexual Common Sense cd in the car on my 5 minute commute. So I get about 20 minutes a day in snippets.
The damn thing is beginning to infuriate me. It's a lecture by a Ph.D. who is obviously skewed in one direction of the issue.

Today's lovely factoid got into "chemical contraception". She rattled of side effects of the pill that I haven't heard nor experienced. She claims that studies have shown that the pill causes irritability, ovarian cysts, weight gain and lowered sex drive.

Now anyone who has a television and is barraged with the countless Yaz and other oral contraception commericals knows that this is clearly false. Most of them are now touted as diminishing irritability, I can vouch for that myself. As for weight gain, I didn't see any and most really only make you gain 2-5 lbs initially but that evens out as you continue to take it. I have never heard of the pill causing ovarian cysts and I think my sister, who is a doctor and on the pill as well, would have mentioned that as a side effect. And if it was I think she would be smart enough to not take the damn thing and prescribe it to people let alone her sister. I have heard of diminished sex drive in some people, but nothing that makes a gal completely frigid.

And nothing kills a sex drive more than a screaming child. Nuf said

The weirdness continues...

Ok so we have to go take a premarital class, right? So the other day I got a package in the mail confirming our enrollment in this class. And along with the directions and what not is an audio cd.

Curious I turn it over and it's titled "Sexual Common Sense"

They are teaching the "natural family planning" method on audio cd now!!!!!!!

Now the area I grew up in had rather extensive Health Classes in school. Junior year of high school we had "family living", where the teacher actually talked about different flavors of lubricant, positions, family planning and other methods of contraception, and stuff like that, so I think I am covered. Not to mention my sister was a sexual health advocate in college and is currently a doctor. I don't think I need this cd.

I am actually listening to it in the car. It's more sociology class than sex ed, so it's boring and lame.
I have to fill out a survey to tell if this cd was useful to me. Hehe

The Journey Continues

Yesterday the man and I had to go to our church and meet with the priest to take a test. It's basically a bunch of questions designed to get subjects out in the open that you may or may not have dealt with.

It was called FOCUS, I can't remember what it stands for but it was a list of statements that you either had to agree or disagree on. And it was scantron (the high school flashbacks were nifty)

It was basically quick and easy. There really isn't a grade, and if you're tests don't match up it's not like the priest won't marry us. It's just an interesting exercise that he likes to have couples do.

The questions were run of the mill. But there were a few that made me laugh.

Agree, Disagree or Undecided

Your partner does things that annoy you.
I feel pressured to get married.
My partners family is interfering with our wedding plans.
My partners appearance is too important them.
My partner acts inappropriately in public.
I think I will be uncomfortable being naked in front of my partner. BWAH HAHAH
The sexual relationship we have is an example of Jesus' love.

That's just a taste. It didn't take long but some of the questions were so weird. I am not a religious person, and I really don't like the stuffy confines that comes with church. I don't think I need to go to a building to be spiritual. But I grew up going and I believe it did mold my morals as a person, so I guess it can't be all bad.

I am trying to not talk so much about my wedding, because I find people that obsess over it to be so irritating. So if I start blathering on about it too much, someone say something.

Slow Tuesday

I am sitting here with nothing to do. It's been a while since that has happened. Which explains the lack of frequent posting. I guess if this little area of the interweb was more popular I would feel a little more guilty about it.

So I am sitting here with random thoughts going through my head.

Random thought 1:
A chick I used to be friends with emailed me a few months ago (in a mass email) asking for my address to send invitations to her wedding. Now I haven't heard from this chick in over a year and I only hear from her if I call her. And when I talk to her, it's all about her. It's the "J Show" with occasional commercial breaks to ask what I am up to, followed by more of the "J Show". So needless to say I ignored her email. She met the guy in July and is getting married this March. This is her second marriage, I went to the first wedding and didn't think it would last. I don't have much confidence in this one either. I didn't invite her to my wedding.

Random thought 2:
For some reason my old roommate popped into my head and I was wondering how she was doing in her marriage. She met the guy online and was engaged after 8 months. Just wondering if they are still together and if they did the whole baby thing yet.

Random thought 3:
Been thinking of first dance songs for my wedding. I don't like all of the stereotypical ones, so I was thinking something unique and not heard at weddings that often. Any suggestions?

Those are the ones floating round at the moment. Nothing huge, mostly unimportant drivel.
That's what happens when I have nothing to work on for most of the day. Day dreaming and thinking about stupid shit.

BP can suck it!

Yes I am referring to the BP gas stations.

I went to fill up the other day to a station that is conveniently on my way home. It so happens to be a BP station that I have been going to for years. Well this time after I told the guy to fill it up regular ( yeah in Jersey we don't pump our own gas, it's against the law hehe) I noticed something new. They had two prices for all the grades of gas. One price was for cash, the other was 3 cents higher per gallon for credit. WTF!!!!!

Well they lost me as a customer, I am going to go across the street to the WAWA, where they don't do that.
What whores!

Lingering Nerve Pain

I know I know, it's been over a week. (only 1 or 2 of you really noticed anyway)

Nothing much has been happening, except for a lot of pain, a lot of advil, and a lot of liquid nourishment.

The pain is subsiding, but still there. I still don't want to eat solid foods because stuff gets stuck in the hole left by my missing tooth. I can't wait until it closes up. I would give me joy.

Other things that happened:
  • Ordered my wedding invitations
  • Registered for wedding stuff
  • First fitting of wedding dress
  • Received wedding invitations
That's about the long and short of it. God why do I continue to even blog?
