Garage Pics

This is the garage Before picture, purdy ain't it?
Yes this was a rotted out piece of shit. Holes in the roof, animals living in it, host to all sorts of mold and fungus. Something you would want on your property isn't it?

This is the garage 3 days from initial completion. This was when the inspector showed up and we were told we had to take the whole thing down and move it. All because one jealous neighbor complained. No one else cared about it, they were all happy the damn rotting mess was coming down. They think it was too big, it was slightly taller but same footprint. Now which structure would you rather look at? Seriously...

This is the removal of the 16 tons of concrete. That was a fun 2-3 days, a lot of work and a bunch of money to pay for the dumping of it.

Fall is Finally Upon Us

The crap rain has left us with a nice chill in the air. Finally it feels like October. I know there is that whole "Indian Summer" thing, but 90s in October is freakin insane.

We actually had a fire in the fireplace last night, it rocked.

My mud puddle

So the garage saga continues...

After a day taking it down, 3 days chipping away 16 tons of concrete, 2 days of digging footings and 1 day of concrete delivery it freakin rains! So basically we had a moat surrounding and island of mud. Fabulous right? My entire back yard is now just puddles and mud. The dog loves it, but my house is quickly becoming covered in it.

Today B & C finished the block wall and currently are back filling the holes. So if all goes well and the rain stays out of our area, we may have the walls back up by tomorrow. YAY! The man is pushing them to have the roof ready to go up by Tuesday. So fingers crossed on that one.

Wine Tasting...good times

So last night was my second wine tasting with the women in the neighborhood.
I brought the man's aunt B with me since she is staying with us while the garage is being built.

This month's choice was Reisling, of which I am a huge fan, so I was happy. B fit right in with the group which was a relief, because she can be abbraisive and you never know what she is going to say. To prove my point someone said about one of the selections, "I don't like the smell, but it tastes good." To which B replied "That's what the fisherman said to the old lady." And the whole room exploded in laughter. I was kind of surprised that came out of her mouth but it was hilarious.

There was a ton of food, more than we could get through. I made my mom friend's taco dip which is lovingly called Wendy's Dip. Big hit, everyone loved it and were surprise as it's simplicity. But appetizers should be simple, in my humble opinion.

I also got to play with the cutest kitten in the world. My neighbor found him on her lawn at 2 days old and has been hand raising him ever since. He is now about 3 and a half months old and friggin adorable. And I am not a cat person, go figure.

Ow my eyes!!!!!

In my office I share a big room with 3 other people. We work with the evil flourescent overhead lights off because staring at a computer screen all day with the bright lights is just too painful for words. So in essence we are like mushrooms working in dim light all day.

Today we have one special client, who insists on coming in to pageinate the book that we are working on for her. She always says she will be in in the morning but never shows up until almost lunch, so she monopolizes the schedule. When she finally does come in, she likes to spread every page out on the tables behind us so that she can see what she has. This takes up most of the workspace in the office. And then she nit picks everything from spacing, to font thickness for hours.

Then when she is satisfied with all the pages, she turns all the overhead lights on and we are stuck working like squinting trolls.

I am currently working with sunglasses on to lessen the glare because I am so cool.

Online crap

How frustrating is it when you are talking to someone via Instant Message or something like that, and they all of a sudden disappear mid conversation?
Or when you are really bored and just want to bullshit and they actually have work to do, stupid jobs.

Happens to me all the time with the man and J-Dub, the best friend, it makes me nuts.

Let it shine, shine, shine

Being a child of the 70s and having a father who was, quite frankly, a nerd. I grew up to an odd mixture of music. He did not have an extensive album collection like a lot of the people I knew. I remember him playing the standard rock music, mostly on the radio, and whatnot and he also had a soft spot in his heart for some folk music. Which is why I still like to listen to Peter, Paul and Mary.

But he did own a few albums, that I believe he still has. And every so often he would put needle to vinyl and rock out to the sweet dulcet tones of Barry Manilow.

And that is why I have the song Daybreak in my head right now.

Thanks dad.

Wine Tasting

Once a month a bunch of the women in my neighborhood get together for a wine tasting party.

So this Wednesday is German wines. Now I have to come up with some kind of noshy thing to bring with me. And I can't keep doing cheese and crackers. That gotten old already and I have only done it once. And I am not looking to do something to involved.

Ugh help.

Drunken memories

I remembered something from the Saturday Beer Fog.

A guy I went to college with was supposed to get married in 2 weeks. They had been together for 5 years or so and were living together. But HE called off the wedding. Not 100% sure on the whole thing but I think she had a special friend on the side. Not sure how special, but he found out and called off the wedding and told her to get out.

How much does that suck?

He was an odd dude but I feel really bad for him.

Fallin off the wagon...

So the little fun I had yesterday turned into a "falling off the wagon" of sorts.

I have been trying to not imbibe because it makes me gain weight and I have that whole fitting into s wedding dress thing. But for some reason when it comes to friends parties I seem to become a moron and drink my face off only to leave myself feeling like a giant piece of poo in the morning.

ugh

Note to J

SUCK IT PRINCESS!!!!

A collective sigh

ever have one of those days where no matter what anyone does, you want to punch them in the face?

WE PASSED...

So B & C have been here all week and finally we have some progress. The footings have been dug. C was making sure he was 3ft all the way around, via a laser level and a stick. He was being diligent to make sure he was deep enough.

So the inspector comes out, looks into the hole and says "Yeah looks good, call me when it's framed." And he leaves. No ruler, no measuring stick, no nothin... I feel oddly robbed.

Tyler Perry's Lost in Thought

There have been a few tv shows and movies lately all with Tyler Perry in the title. As in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?

So my confusion is basically who the hell is this guy and why is his name in the title of all his movies? Is he in all his movies, is he an actor, director, what? Most movies just rely on the title and the mention of an actor or actress in the lead role. I have never seen any of the movies either, I just know that one of them involves a guy dressing up like a grandma, cause you know that's original and never been done.

Apparently it's a cultural thing and I am not supposed to understand.

One of those days

I am trying to update, even though I know I don't have any readers.
Which when you think about it seems kind of retarded of me. But then I am prone to do retarded things most of the time.

B & C have been with us for 4 days now and I am already ready for them to go home. I do like them but sometimes having someone stay with you can be a bit much, it messes up any sense of routine I have. I feel like I have to be "on" all of the time and I can't relax. But I don't have to make dinner, which is a total bonus. But it's not stuff I would usually make and I am eating more than I should, which is sabotaging my efforts to the ability to fit in a wedding dress. Maybe I should look into getting a tapeworm...

Hopefully everything will get built relatively quickly. I am to the point where I just want it done already.
They leave on the weekends and go home, so i will be able to chill out a little bit. But the man is working all weekend so I am basically on my own. I do have a party to attend on Saturday, so I am slipping a little fun into the weekend.

Well back to the rest of my workday of not much to do. And what there is to do, I don't wanna work on.
